Understanding everything that is involved in having a web site of your own will help you make the informed decisions that are best for you. That's why we've written this guide outlining everything you need to know to get an online presence of your own.

Domain Name

The first thing you need is a domain name. That's the address or URL that visitors will type into their browser's address bar to get to your site. For example www.yoursite.com. So how does one go about getting their own domain name? You need to utilize the services of a Registrar. In many cases, web hosting companies or even internet service providers offer this service as well. Web Dynamics is a certified eNom domain name reseller and can register your domain name for you. Once your domain name is registered, you will need to specify domain name servers (DNS). More on that in a bit.

Web Host

Your web site will need a home. Somewhere for all of the individual files that make up your website to reside. That's where web hosting comes in. Your web host provides you with space on a dedicated server for your web site. Once your website has been setup on the server, visitor will need to be able to find it somehow. Let's talk some more about DNS. When a potential visitor types in your address, their internet connection will try to find your site. It works something like this. If the internet connection knows where the site is, it brings you there directly. If it doesn't know where the site is, it begins to look things up. The first thing it does is look for registrar records for the domain name. Once it finds the record, it follows the information under Domain Name Servers. Once it gets to the Domain Name Servers it finds the specific location for your web site and brings the visitor there. It sounds more complicated than it really is.
